Dear CFIE Families,
Welcome to the start of the 2016-2017 school year at Carolina Forest International Elementary! It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself, Leanne Ervin, as the new principal. It is an honor to be joining the CFIE family and to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich legacy of producing so many outstanding students. I am joining CFIE after 23 years in the field of education. I am a proud native of Eastern North Carolina and a product of Onslow County Schools. After graduation from East Carolina University, I returned to my Onslow “roots” in 1993, to begin my teaching career. I felt very strongly about giving back to the very community and schools that raised and educated me so well. The majority of my career has been in the elementary setting. I taught at Northwoods Elementary School for eight years before moving into administration. For the next twelve years, I served as Assistant Principal at Clyde Erwin Elementary, Morton Elementary, Dixon Elementary and Richlands Elementary School. In 2013, I accepted the principalship at Richlands Elementary where I remained for the past three years. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Mike and we have two wonderful children, Michael 18 and Mallory 12…and I must mention our beloved black lab Emmitt.
Carolina Forest International Elementary has enjoyed tremendous success as a beacon of academic and cultural excellence for our school district and for our state. The results have not happened by accident. It has been through the hard work, dedication, and partnerships that have existed between school staff, parents, community members, and the most important stakeholders in the equation, the students. This formula for success is what has embraced me from the very beginning when I walked through the doors just a few weeks ago. I am humbled and most appreciative of the opportunity presented to me to become a member of this amazing educational family. It is my desire and mission to be intentional in my leadership this year, using this time to listen and learn, to gain a deeper understanding about the school, its programs, its history and about what is important to you as stakeholders. It is my passion and belief that no significant learning can take place without a significant relationship. I believe all children should know they “belong” and are a valuable part of a smaller community (family), a bigger community (classroom and school) as well as a part of the larger world around them. Children need to trust the adults around them to provide a safe and risk free atmosphere to learn in. They need to feel comfortable in their surroundings and know that asking questions is a wonderful thing.
As a parent myself, I understand the importance of feeling that you belong and confident that your child is in a positive, nurturing learning environment. Open communication with your child’s teacher and parental involvement is an important aspect of every child’s education and is the primary factor in a student’s success in school. We encourage and welcome you to be active participants in your student’s education. In the days ahead, please feel comfortable calling or emailing me to share concerns, suggestions or ideas to help make this another world-class school year in “The Forest”!
